- Apply and register with the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services as a grower of industrial hemp. You must also submit a planting report.

- Begin testing plant material at least three weeks before harvest to check THC levels.
- Make sure that you’ve completed all the necessary government paperwork prior to harvest. Have samples of your plants tested by a third-party facility to make sure they’re compliant.
- Harvesting season usually begins 100-120 days after planting. During harvest, dry the crop and separate all of the biomass from the stem. Remove any seed before processing.
