Universities are leading the way in hemp research and have been since long before the 2018 Farm Bill that legalized hemp with under .03% THC content. One of these universities is Utah State University. It was here that cannabis was grown for rope for decades until the research was stopped in 1970 when Richard Nixon signed the Controlled Substances Act. Now hemp growing and research are legal again–USU researchers are back at their work. But now, they’re looking into the best ways to grow the plant to garner the highest yield and cannabinoid content.

“All these people that have been growing it illegally, they didn’t study science in school, like biology and all the principles, so they make a lot of observations and a lot of bizarre conclusions…Like you need to plant at the full moon”
