- Flood irrigation system: Flood irrigation is just like what it sounds– taking water from a source and flooding your fields with it. The benefits of flood irrigation are affordability especially for those with free or cheap water sources and easy construction. However, this irrigation system has many disadvantages that you’ll want to consider ahead of time. Flood irrigation systems make all of your crops wet including the foliage after watering. This is the most popular method due to its high water efficiency and delivery system straight to the roots. It also mitigates disease and mold concerns that wet foliage can lead to.
