While hemp is known for its relatively low maintenance needs, it does require substantial research around cultivation and legal compliance. When it comes to analyzing business strategy and finances, another important piece is looking at farming equipment. Here are the investments you’ll need for growing CBD seed.

Necessary Farming Equipment for Growing CBD Seed In Missouri

• Hemp tilling equipment: Soil preparation is crucial for cultivating high CBD hemp. We recommend preparing raised beds for about 1600 plants per acre. For larger farms, it may be a good idea to invest in an industrial raised bed shaper. Plastic mulch layers are also recommended to help farmers preserve water and create better weed control and consistent soil temperatures.
• Hemp planting equipment: Your planting equipment will vary based on if you decide to use CBD seed or clones. It’s best to start seed in a greenhouse but for those without the infrastructure, you can sow seeds directly into your field with a seed drill. Seed drills are ideal for mass planting, provide better accuracy for soil depth. If you’re planting clones, a transplanter would be a good piece of equipment to invest in.
• Hemp irrigation system: While hemp requires less water than other cash crops, you’ll likely still need to invest in an irrigation system. If you don’t already have one, we recommend investing in a drip irrigation system. This is the most ideal option for hemp cultivation and offers numerous benefits from automation options to high water efficiency.
• Hemp harvesting equipment: For farmers producing CBD, you’ll want to decide if you’re harvesting hemp biomass or flowers. Larger farms often opt for hemp biomass while smaller farms focus on hemp flowers. For large-scale hemp biomass harvest, you’ll need to find a CBD-specific hemp harvester. For harvesting flower, there is currently no equipment available– farmers have to hand-harvest flower.
